EGIL OLSEN // ROKKEN 20YEARS
- 22AprStudenthuset Rokken
On April 22, 2005, Rokken opened its doors, and among those who took the stage on opening day was Egil Olsen with his old band, Uncle's Institution. What could be more fitting than having Egil kick off the anniversary week with a journey into his musical universe?
Egil Olsen has been touring and releasing records since the early 2000s and was the very first artist to perform when Rokken opened its doors in 2005. He recently released the album 'Big Babies' and the accompanying live album 'Live & Kickin'. "The strangest and most beautiful about living in difficult times," wrote VG, who also described Egil Olsen as "One of the finest and most wry artists we have" and "one of the country's funniest live performers."
Now, he is back with a brand new album! 'Direct Sunlight and Heat' is already available in physical format at egilolsen.com, but the songs are being released individually as singles on streaming platforms. It's a brighter album with both humor and seriousness, wrapped in a creative and playful soundscape.
With his melancholic and quirky ballads, his wry humor, and his unique connection with the audience, Egil Olsen has established himself as a distinctive and exceptional live artist. He has performed concerts in Japan, China, the USA, and Germany, and played on both the smallest and largest stages and festivals in Norway.
Egil Olsen has also composed music for film, TV, and video games. He recently had two songs featured in the Netflix series First Love and contributed the end-credits song to the new Norwegian animated film Titina. In the video game Dreamfall, he has several songs and even appears as an animated 3D character, performing his own concert inside the game. Additionally, he creates his own, often animated, music videos and album covers, and has had autobiographical comic strips in Dagbladet about "life as a relatively unknown superstar." There is even an Egil Olsen tribute album, featuring Norwegian artists interpreting his songs.
